Container throughput in ports in Latin America and the Caribbean increased 6.7% during the first quarter of 2017.
The collected figures reveal a shift to double-digit growth rates for a large number of container ports in the region.
The increase in container port movement reverses the slowdown observed in activity in 2016 (-0.9%). Growth in the first quarter of 2017 was mainly determined by the increase in activity in eight countries: Nicaragua (22.1%), Panama (12.6%), Mexico (10.0%), Chile [2] (10.0 %), Peru (8.2%), Dominican Republic (38.8%), Guatemala (6.9%) and Honduras (7.7%).
